The story

LOTUS POND

In Vietnam, lotus season arrives in the heat of summer. Ponds across the country fill with flowers all at once, pink and magenta rising from the water, wide green leaves floating flat around them. The most famous of these is Hồ Tây in Hanoi, where the water turns pink for a few weeks every July, and the whole city walks out to see it. This blouse carries that scene. Rather than a single flower, the design gathers the whole pond at the hem. Flowers open in full color, leaves drawn beside them, and small round buds sit like closed hands waiting their turn to open. It is not the ceremonial lotus of the temple or the everyday lotus of the market. It is the lotus in its own season, alive and in company. Cut from Dui, a Vietnamese silk that moves easily through warm days, the blouse falls softly against the body and carries a whole summer with it.
